Two Indiana rules stand out. First, there is a ceiling on the total, not only on each check: for injuries from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027, all disability payments combined top out at $439,000. Second, your employer directs your medical care, so the company side picks the treating doctor.
The reporting window is short as well. State law says to tell your employer within 30 days of the injury.

Indiana check amounts and limits
Temporary total disability pays two-thirds of your average weekly wage over the past 52 weeks. The top weekly amount is $878 for injuries between July 1, 2026 and June 30, 2027.
The first 7 days go unpaid unless you are out more than 21 days. Checks can run for up to 500 weeks. The Board expects the first check to be mailed 15 days after the date of injury. If yours never came or came and then quit, read our page on payments that stopped.

Indiana filing windows
- Notice to your employer: within 30 days of the injury, as soon as practicable.
- Application for Adjustment of Claim with the Board: within two years of the injury or two years after the last compensation was paid.
- Request for Full Board review of a single hearing member's award: within 30 days of the award.
The Application for Adjustment of Claim is the filing that puts a dispute before the Board. Until you file it, the two-year limit keeps running, even while you trade calls with the adjuster.
If an Indiana insurer refuses the claim
A refusal letter does not settle anything by itself. Filing your application asks the Board to step in and a hearing member (one Board member who takes the evidence) issues an award. If you disagree with that award, the Full Board can review it when you ask in time.

Indiana workers comp lawyer fees follow a schedule
The Board publishes a schedule of attorney fees. It allows 20% of the first $50,000 recovered and 15% of anything above that, with a $200 minimum. When an attorney recovers medical expenses for you, the fee on that part is 10%.
Because the percentages are set in advance, you can estimate the fee before you sign anything. Ask any attorney you speak with to show you the math on your own numbers.
People also ask
Can I pick my own doctor in Indiana?
The employer directs medical care, so treatment normally starts with the doctor the employer or its insurer names. Talk to an attorney before paying for outside care on your own.
How long can Indiana temporary checks last?
Up to 500 weeks, subject to the total dollar cap for your injury year.
Is there a deadline to tell my boss in Indiana?
Yes. Give notice within 30 days of the injury and sooner if you can. Put it in writing and keep a copy for yourself.
